Terms of Service
Last updated: October 12, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and PlayDelay LLC, doing business as RootSketch (“RootSketch”, “we”, “us”). By making an account or using RootSketch you agree to them. We have tried to write them in plain words. If something is not clear, please ask us.
1. What RootSketch does
RootSketch helps families preserve their history. You send us photos of letters, journals, certificates and family photos. We clean up the pictures, type up the words, help you name the people in your photos, and write short life sketches from your records. We also offer simple tools for planning family reunions.
RootSketch works alongside FamilySearch for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by FamilySearch or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We do not upload anything to FamilySearch for you.
2. Computer help (AI) and mistakes
Typing up, descriptions, questions about hard-to-read words, names found in your records and life sketches are written with the help of AI (computer software). They can contain mistakes. Please check anything important against the original. Every fact in a life sketch links to the record it came from, and you can fix titles, dates and places yourself or send us a message about any mistake.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to make an account.
- Please give a real email address and keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- Tell us right away at hello@rootsketch.com if you think someone else has used your account.
4. Your records belong to you
You keep ownership of everything you upload. You give us permission to store, copy, clean up, read and process your uploads only to provide RootSketch to your family (for example, typing them up, finding faces so you can name them, and writing sketches). We do not sell your records or use them for advertising.
Only upload things you own or have the family's permission to share. Please do not upload anything illegal, hateful, or that you do not have the right to share.
5. Living people
We keep living people private. We do not write life sketches about people who are still living, and we treat names as living until you tell us someone has passed away. If you choose to share a life sketch somewhere else (for example FamilySearch Memories, which the public can see), that choice is yours.
6. Plans, payment and cancelling
Plans and prices are shown on our Plans page. When online payment is available, you pay through Stripe. There are no setup fees. A monthly plan renews each month and a yearly plan renews each year until you cancel. Gifts are paid once and do not renew. You can cancel any time from the Plan page in your account. See our Cancellation & Refund Policy for what happens to payments and your records when you cancel.
If a payment fails, your account becomes read-only until the card is updated: you can still see and download everything, but you cannot upload until it is fixed. We never delete your records because a payment failed.
6a. Family members
On the Heritage plan the account owner can invite up to 4 more people (5 logins in total) to sign in with their own email and password. The owner chooses whether each person is an Admin (can manage members and make changes), a Helper (can upload and make changes), or a Viewer (can only look and download), and can remove anyone at any time. Admins can also invite Helpers and Viewers and manage those roles. Only the owner manages the plan and payments. Everyone you invite can see all of your family's records, so please only invite people you trust. The account owner is responsible for the account, the plan and payments. If the plan changes from Heritage to another plan, members are kept but become read-only.
6b. Sharing RootSketch (referral credits)
- You earn a $10 credit when a new family signs up with your link or code and then pays for a plan for the first time.
- One credit per new family. Gifts and free months do not count. You cannot refer your own family or your own email address.
- Credits come off your future plan payments. They are not cash, cannot be moved to someone else, and end if your account is closed.
- We may change or end this offer, and may cancel credits that come from misuse. Credits you already earned are kept.
7. Fair use
Each plan includes a monthly number of pages or photos and life sketches, shown on the Plan page with a page meter. If you go over, extra pages are kept safely and wait until the next month, unless you choose to buy an extra page pack. We never charge you for extra pages automatically. Please do not try to break, overload or misuse the service, or access another family's account.
8. Ending your account
You can stop using RootSketch any time, download all your records from the Privacy page, and ask us to delete everything. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why and give you a chance to download your records unless the law prevents it.
9. No guarantees
We work hard to keep RootSketch running and your records safe, and we keep backups. Still, the service is provided “as is”. Please keep your original papers and photos; RootSketch is a helpful copy, not a replacement for them.
10. Limit of our responsibility
To the extent the law allows, RootSketch is not responsible for indirect or unexpected losses, and our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under the law that cannot be limited.
11. Changes
If we change these terms, we will post the new version here and tell you in your account or by email before important changes take effect.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, USA. If we ever disagree, please contact us first; most problems can be solved with a conversation.
